Deacons
There are basic spiritual responsibilities which fall to deacons, the spiritual leaders of the church. Their qualifications are founded in I Timothy 2.
Deacons work in conjunction with the pastor and are responsible for: assisting with communion, baptisms, worship, confirmation, spiritual welfare with many Bible Study and prayer opportunities, including the Internet prayer line called Congo Care. They look after special worship events and are a strong adjunct for the pastor. Deacons encourage lay participation and provide a music program which assures a purposeful and harmonious worship experience.
Deacons share their lives on a spiritual level by building relationships within the church and work hard to project an image of being a friendly church, with greeters at the door, a fellowship hour following worship, welcoming of visitors, a card, a telephone call, a hospital visit, help with meals as needed by those who are ill, or helping bereaved families following funeral services.
We recognize male and female deacons. Every member of the church is assigned to a deacon for care and information. There are presently five deacons.
